Jesuit Refugee Service is an international Catholic organization, with a mission to accompany, serve and defend the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. JRS has a priority to work wherever the needs of displaced people are urgent and unattended by others, and offers a human service to refugees and the communities through a wide range of rehabilitation and relief activities, many of which center around formal and informal education needs.

Job Purpose
This is a position based in Kakuma Refugee Camp. The holder will be under the direct supervision of the JRS Counselling Coordinator and takes responsibility for conducting recruitment, interviews, referrals and follow-up of persons with specific needs including the vulnerable within the community.

Disability Training Manuals Specialist


Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic Organization, under the Society of Jesus Trustee. The Mission of JRS is to accompany, serve and plead the cause of refugees and forcibly displaced people whose needs are more urgent and forgotten. 

The JRS Kakuma Special Needs Department is looking for a consultant to review and develop TOT Disability Training manuals. The updated manual will be used to train JRS staff as well as community members.  This is in line with the objective of improving the psychosocial well-being of intellectually and developmentally challenged persons and their families/community through increasing insight, creating awareness and improving effectiveness of the care givers who provide psychosocial services, special needs education, rehabilitation and services, training and outreach programs.


The consultant will be involved in updating  the training manuals treating the following areas: Special Needs Care training; outreach activities to raise awareness on disabilities, parent training on care and management of children living with disabilities, community rehabilitation, inclusive education, etc. The manuals will empower the trainers to equip JRS day care assistants with skills they need to confidently provide support to parents of children living with disability, conduct outreach to those unable to access the daycare centers, conduct community awareness campaigns and disseminate information on identification and assessment of mental health disorders and available interventions. The manuals will also improve the quality of training offered to community members as well as be used as an evaluation tool for the determination of impact.
